Drivers who opt to modify their car should remember to inform their insurers of any changes they make to vehicles in order to ensure their policy is not rendered null and void, an expert has warned.

Research conducted by Tesco Personal Finance has revealed that some 15 per cent of drivers have modified their cars in one way or another, with Norwich being the region with most modified vehicles.

And the growth in popularity of such changes is put down to shows such as Pimp My Ride UK, which is presented by Tim Westwood.

He said: "It's easier now for kids to customise their rides."

But drivers looking to reduce the premiums on their rides should consider fitting new security devices, the financial services provider claims, noting that doing so may help to cut the cost of car insurance.

In related news, the AA noted earlier this year that increasing fuel costs may be affecting people's leisure travel.

InsureandGo can provide great value car insurance policies.
