Officials in Kenya are looking to promote the nation as a destination for birdwatchers, following success by other African countries.

The Nation reports that the region is home to more than 1,090 species of bird, providing the country with the potential to be one of the most attractive twitching destinations in the world.

A recent ornithological study by Nature Kenya and BirdLife International reports that Kenya is home to a number of rare and endangered species, such as Sokoke Scops owl and the Taita White-Eye.

Currently, only 250 birdwatchers come to Kenya each year, a number that tourism officials are keen to increase.

Wildlife enthusiasts visiting Kenya can see a range of animals in the country's wilderness, or diving off its coast in the Indian Ocean.
