The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has stated that tourism earnings in the country have risen by 18 per cent in the nine-month period ending in September, it has been reported.

According to the East African Standard, KTB states that Kenya received 49.2 billion shillings (£360 million) in comparison to 41.5 billion shillings over the same period last year.

Managing director of the board Dr Ongon'ga Achieng told the publication that Kenya is increasingly becoming a popular destination for eco-tourism.

He added that the figure for the nine-month period surpasses the entire annual earnings for 2005 and that tourist arrivals had increased 8.2 per cent to 1.3 million from 1.2 million last year, the publication asserts.

Kenya offers a range of tourist attractions, including wilderness reserves and diving in the Indian Ocean.
