Nearly a fifth (19 per cent) of children admitted to fighting with other people in the vehicle, an activity that may result in the driver becoming distracted and require a claim to be made on
car insurance.
Spokesperson for the insurer Gill Murphy commented: "Bored kids and long car journeys are not a happy mix and ... our research [shows] that a third of parents claim that the in-car antics of their children distract them from their driving."
It was recently reported that drivers who smoke at the wheel can face a £60 fine, three points on their licence and higher car insurance premiums through new regulations in the Highway Code.
