A lack of life insurance and other types of protection is causing many Britons concern as their economic situation becomes more precarious, it has been suggested.

Statistics from financial services firm Prudential suggests that concerns about financial stability are leaving consumers feeling that they would be unable to keep up with the costs of living if they suffered an accident or were made redundant.

According to the group paying the bills on time was the biggest concern for 85 per cent of people.

With living costs rising, seven per cent of people were said to take "the ostrich approach" by burying their head in the sand and trying to forget about it.

Sammy Rubin, chief executive officer at PruProtect, says: "There is obviously a gap between what issues we, as a society, are worrying about and what we're doing to alleviate these worries. Protecting ourselves in the event of changes to our personal circumstances can take a huge weight off our minds"

The news follows recent protests by lorry drivers in London and Cardiff over the rising costs of fuel.

InsureandGo offers life insurance protection for those who are concerned about planning for the future.
