A college in Lapland has announced that from next year it will offer a one-year course in "Elfing", it has emerged.

The Daily Mail reports that elves are already a common feature of the country during the Christmas period and prove popular with visitors to the country.

Students who complete the course at Lapland Vocational College in Rovaniemi will be officially certified as "Elf".

A "fast-track" course will also be available, with training focusing on wilderness training and helping guide tourists and visitors to the region.

"The Elves will learn how to keep the visitors safe and happy on Husky tours, sleigh rides and snow mobile trips," project manager Kari Rekild tells the publication.

She adds that they will also be able to ensure that children are well behaved in the run-up to Christmas.

Elsewhere in the region, it was recently reported that a town in Norway plans to establish a number of festive facilities, including a snow hotel and snowman theme park.

Consumers planning a trip to snowy climes may find that they benefit from investing in winter holiday insurance from InsureandGo.
