While many insurers advise holidaymakers to book their
travel insurance as soon as possible for a getaway, many Britons are leaving it late to choose their destination and are embracing last minute deals.
Darren McCormick, head of aviation at Travel Counsellors, said that more people are waiting when it comes to booking their holidays this year, as Britons look to be holding on to their money for longer.
He noted that at present there are more last minute deals available than ever before and advised anyone thinking of making a late reservation to book through an agent, as they can help to shop around and find the best deals on a person's behalf.
Research carried out by Youtravel.com recently showed that booking figures for the first half of June were up by 15 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.
In addition, the company is seeing particular interest in trips to Turkey, Portugal, Greece and Tunisia - with double-digit growth in searches for all these destinations registered in May.
Anyone thinking of purchasing travel insurance for a last minute getaway this summer might want to take out cover with
