The fear of being late is the biggest cause of erratic driving on the school run, it has been asserted.

Figures from financial services provider Sainsbury's Car Insurance suggest that 13 per cent of all people taking their children to school have driven with less care than they normally would due to concerns of being tardy for an appointment or work.

Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, comments: "Busy roads, children being noisy in the back seat, and the worry of being late for school or work can all lead to stress that can affect people's driving."

Meanwhile, an academic study by esure suggests that males may have a natural inclination towards risk-taking behaviour that may make them more dangerous behind the wheel than their female counterparts.

Consumers eager to obtain a competitive deal on car insurance could well find that they benefit from contacting InsureandGo - either online or over the phone - to get a quote.
