Learner drivers will find it increasingly difficult to afford to pay to learn to drive after new increases in the cost of driving tests come into effect tomorrow, it has been claimed.
According to price comparison site uSwitch, drivers will see prices rise by 12.3 per cent for both theory and practical tests after the Driving Standards Authority introduces new pricing plans tomorrow.
It is expected that this will cost UK consumers around £14.4 million each year, with theory tests costing £30 and practical tests costing £56.50.
Commenting on the price increases, Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch, notes: "With the average person sitting their practical test two to three times before passing, learners must also have a contingency fund to cover the cost of initial failure."
A report published by the Times last month noted that the average cost of learning to drive is likely to rise by £500 as a result of stricter training regulations.
