Having comprehensive
home insurance may be something homeowners wish to consider to help cover the costs of repairs following a lightning strike to a home.
Heavy storms hit south Essex yesterday (June 16th), with a number of homes being affected. One house, situated on Hockley Road in Basildon, was hit by a lightning bolt shortly after 18:00.
Next-door neighbour Dave Stackey told the local paper - the Echo - that he had been watching television at the time when suddenly there was a huge bang and everything went dead.
He said: "It was so strange because there was smoke absolutely pouring out of the roof, but the front of the house and the windows were untouched."
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at BIBA, recently argued that home insurance remains "an absolute must" for property owners and is not an area that should be cut back on during the present economic downturn.
