New events will help to attract tourists during the London 2012 Olympic Games, it has been claimed - with many choosing to take out
holiday insurance for the event.
Kurt Janson, policy director for the Tourism Alliance, said many people will choose to visit London ahead of the Games as it is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a lot to offer.
He commented: "There will be no problems attracting people because some of the biggest teams are from Europe, such as Germany and France which are just 'next door'. There are some large markets there and this time there would be no problems with visa issues."
Mr Janson added that the London Games will not have the spectacle of Beijing - as the UK does not have the money or manpower to lavish on it as the Chinese did. However, it will be a good and "very British" Olympics.
According to the European Tour Operators Association, from the spring of 2008 international visitor arrivals to Beijing plummeted and in the month before the Games, they were 30 per cent down on the previous year.
InsureandGo offers holiday insurance for Brits wishing to attend the London Games.
