London is widely viewed as a serious choice for companies looking to get things done, it has been suggested, which could be good news for professionals who have already bought their
travel insurance to head off to a city meeting.
Tracy Halliwell, director of business tourism at Visit London, said that some other destinations have a more frivolous reputation, whereas many companies consider London to be a serious choice.
She commented: "The fact that London is so diverse and has so much to offer across all the different venues, [means it] will always be on the radar for good business meetings."
According to the Business Visits & Events Partnership, business travel is worth more than £22 billion a year to the UK economy from visitors' spending while they are here.
Furthermore, the group published figures showing that business visitors spent 109 per cent more in 2008 in real terms than in 1979, while leisure expenditure increased by 18 per cent over the same period.
