While individuals looking to keep down the cost of a holiday may opt for
cheap travel insurance and a domestic break, they may see London as being above their price range. However, the capital is not as expensive as is often perceived, a tourism expert has claimed.
Mary Rance, chief executive at UKinbound, said that despite the effects of the economic downturn, the UK capital continues to offer some of the best free tourist attractions in Europe.
"With the challenging circumstances we've had this year, the industry has put together some really good deals and offers to attract tourists to the capital," she commented.
Research carried out by TripAdvisor recently showed that London was voted the best city in Europe for free attractions and public parks.
More than 2,700 European travellers took part in the survey, which voted Copenhagen as Europe's cleanest city and Prague as the biggest bargain.
