UK holidaymakers are increasingly taking out
cheap travel insurance and getting better value for money on their long-haul getaways, it has been claimed.
Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for Abta - The Travel Association, said the fact sterling can stretch so much further in developing countries has meant that trips to destinations outside the eurozone are becoming increasingly popular, with Asian and north African getaways especially so.
She commented: "In a lot of markets we've seen sterling not performing very well over the last few years, but pretty much every destination is good for us because the quality [and] the price of living is cheaper."
According to On the Beach, the firm's top five destinations for 2010 summer holidays are Egypt, Turkey, the Balearics, the Canary Islands and Costa Blanca.
It noted destinations across Turkey and Egypt are selling above last year, with sales up 63 per cent and 47 per cent respectively.
