Travellers booking a family holiday have been advised that it is important to consider additional costs when choosing a package.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), tickets booked with budget airlines would often involve additional costs on top of the headline price because of factors such as operating flights from out-of-town airports and not issuing discounts for children.
Sean Tipton, press officer at the ABTA, said: "Once your child stops being a babe in arms you'll have to pay a full adult fare for them because they don't have child fares."
By contrast, he added that "traditional" and charter airlines will offer discounts for children.
He added that while it is worth considering a budget airline, consumers should look to factor in additional costs when booking the holiday.
A Rough Guide study published earlier this year found that Virgin Atlantic was the most child-friendly airline, while easyJet and Ryanair were said to have fared "miserably" in the consumer vote.
