Consumers should carry out some research before they book their holidays, according to
travel insurance firm esure.
According to the company, those planning to make the most of new year bargains in the holiday market could end up having a miserable time by not checking out visa requirements or arriving in the middle of a season of poor weather.
Research by the firm suggests that less than half (48 per cent) of holidaymakers check to see if there are weather warnings before booking their holiday abroad and a quarter (26 per cent) do not carry out any research to see whether they need a visa for their destination.
A total of 27 per cent of respondents do not look to see if they need any tablets or vaccinations for their holiday.
