Poland is becoming an increasingly popular choice for holidaymakers and expats, due to the number of budget airlines that serve the country, HiFX has reported.

And it's not a trend that is likely to stop anytime soon, as 14 new flight routes are set to be established by these low-cost airlines over a two-month period, further increasing the range of possibilities for those looking to travel to Eastern Europe.

House prices are also soaring in the region due to its opening up to foreign visitors, with properties near the airport gaining close to 40 per cent a year in value on average.

"The ease of access to a property has a real impact on its success as a holiday home as well as its future sale value," said Mark Bodega, director at HiFX.

Visitors to Eastern Europe were also expected to rise as travel agents predicted a 'Palin effect' from the ongoing BBC series in the area.

But travellers were also warned in a recent report by American Express that many Eastern European countries still don't have health insurance, and to take travel insurance with them when going abroad.
