Anyone planning a luxury getaway might like to take out holiday insurance and book a visit to Thailand, where five-star luxury is just the beginning, one local travel expert has claimed.

Joanna Cooke, UK and Ireland marketing manager for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said the majority of hotels and places to stay in Thailand deliver an excellent level of service that adds to the overall feeling of opulence and pampering which visitors to the country enjoy.

She commented: "With Thailand, the Thai hospitality and the service that you get there automatically adds an extra star to where you are staying."

According to the latest unofficial figures from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, between January and November 2009, Thailand welcomed more than 630,000 Brits.

The authority noted the country had a very positive year in terms of tourism numbers, especially given the impact of the global economic downturn on the travel sector.
