There will always be a luxury travel market, no matter what happens to the global economy, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has argued.
Kate Kenward, executive director at AITO, said despite the recession, there will always be a market for luxury travel as people continue to be intent on exploring new and exotic destinations across the globe.
She commented: "People are saving up for their holiday and they want to make sure that it will be delivered. From our perspective, that is still an important element of a holiday."
Ms Kenward added there are a group of people that will not be put off by high prices when it comes to long-haul travel. For these people, the fact they want to go there will mean they will find a way.
According to Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2010, the top destinations next year are likely to be El Salvador, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Portugal, Suriname and the US.
