Manchester Airport has become the first in the UK to implement new services which will provide greater access to passengers with restricted mobility.
Holidaymakers with restricted mobility will now benefit from more varied equipment, including more modern wheelchairs, specially-adapted buggies, ambulances and highlift vehicles.
The changes have been implemented as a result of investment from the one-complete-solution (OCS) services group, which gave £500,000 to the project.
Around 133 OCS staff at the north-west England airport will receive specialist training in disability awareness, as well as advanced lifting techniques to ensure that passengers get the best service.
The scheme has been supported by a number of airlines using Manchester Airport, including British Airways, First Choice and American Airlines.
Claire Longden, ground services manager at the airport, said: "The decision to implement the service early gives us a great opportunity to improve the existing service in order to meet our customers' expectations for the future and to deliver an even higher quality services.
"It shows our joint commitment to putting the customer first."
