Although marriages in the UK at their lowest level since 1862, Britons have been informed that tying the knot could deliver savings on
car insurance, it has been suggested.
Price comparison site Confused.com has recently announced that married couples can expect to benefit from an average saving of £82.70 on a joint motor insurance policy.
The firm also identified that in one instance, a married couple could save £228.01 on the cost of cover.
When taking out single policies, married men were also said to fare better than their single counterparts, although the £106.88 average saving is partly attributed to a disproportionately large average premiums for single men when compared to women's average cover cost.
Debra Williams, managing director at Confused.com, said: "Despite the old male adage that women prosper more from a marriage arrangement than their out-of-pocket husbands, our research shows that marrying a woman can in fact save men a considerable amount."
In another recently released report, Confused.com suggested that traditional costs associated with insuring convertibles are in fact ill-founded, with the average cover costing just £32 more than a hard top.
