With weddings in far flung destinations becoming more popular, a specialist company has reported that Mauritius is now the top ranked destination.

Mauritius' exotic locations placed it on the top spot, with Cyprus coming in second and the picturesque mountains of Austria ranked third.

According to weddingsabroad.com, approximately 16 per cent of first marriages take place in far away locations.

But once second marriages are taken into account, the statistic leaps to an impressive 60 per cent.

Ron Cropper, spokesperson for weddingsabroad.com said the Caribbean still drew the most attention, but the company was increasingly pushing their clients to newer destinations on other sides of the world due to the oversubscription and bad weather.

'We recommend Mauritius as our prime destination. It's one of the few locations where we can guarantee one wedding per day,' Mr Cropper said.

Cyprus is popular for its beach weddings, while Austria can offer a fairytale style wedding, Mr Cropper added.
