Homeowners should be braced for more flooding this week, as the Met Office has issued another severe weather warning.

Fierce gales are predicted to buffer much of the UK, with winds of up to 80mph forecast for Wednesday evening and Thursday.

Many people have already found themselves flooded thanks to the severe weather and a further bout of storms could see more homeowners reaching for their home insurance policies.

Insurance companies have advised people to minimise disruption by taking the time now to move all important documents to a safe place and removing any valuable and moveable furniture upstairs.

People are also advised to check their flood risk with the Environment Agency and sign up with its advanced flood warning system.

There could be more weather-related woes for households after the flood waters have subsided.

This week's gales are set to be followed with a sudden drop in temperature, with snow threatened in the north and east.

After a sudden freeze, people could see themselves again flooded out due to burst pipes.
