A visit to Mont St Michel is a must for
travel insurance holders making a trip to Normandy, it has been claimed.
Sarah Whitam, Normandy press representative at Atout France, said because of Normandy's close proximity to the UK, the region can be an excellent destination for a weekend excursion, as it is just a short ferry ride away.
"If you've not been before, you must go to Mont St Michel. It's France's most visited tourist attraction outside of Paris. It really is spectacular. It's twinned with St Michael's Mount in Cornwall and it's an island in its own right," she commented.
According to figures from Eurostat, overnight stays at hotels in France fell by 5.6 per cent to 191 million.
However, in 2009, nearly one and a half billion nights were spent in hotels and similar establishments across the whole of the European Union, representing an annual decrease of 5.1 per cent.
