Executive chairman of VisitBritain Christopher Rodrigues said that this year could see Brits take five million more domestic holidays.
Citing the weakened pound as the main reason for this trend, Mr Rodrigues also said that the sterling's value could see overseas tourists flock to Britain.
He said: "Our priority this year has to be working with the industry to encourage Britons to explore their own country and foreigners to visit us right now, when we offer great value."
