There is a growing body of research linking stress to the development of coronary heart disease (CHD) and this is something which could impact on the life insurance costs of many Brits.

Denise Armstrong, lifestyle manager at Heart Research UK, said the public is becoming more aware of the role that stress can play in health and it is therefore important for Brits to remember to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to stay fit for longer.

She commented: "[Doing] things like getting plenty of exercise, eating a healthy balanced diet, relaxation, putting into place time management skills and generally having a look at their lifestyle [can help to reduce stress]."

According to a study conducted by researchers at University College London, stress is a risk factor for CHD.

It involved 514 healthy men and women with an average age of 62 without history or objective signs of CHD, drawn from the Whitehall II epidemiological cohort. The participants were subjected to various stress tests and then the levels of the stress hormone Cortisol were measured.
