UK motorcycle riders have been provided with a new manual to help them stay as safe as possible on the road.
Motorcycle insurance may help cover the costs of any damage to a vehicle should an accident occur, but the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has released guidance in the hope of reducing such incidents in the first place.
The How to be a Better Rider manual contains information such as positioning and steering techniques.
"Bends have always been an area of uncertainty for many riders, but the limit point for effective bend assessment is now usefully explained," says IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger.
Urban bikers who may whizz around town on two wheels have also been given guidance about blind spot techniques, which could be useful in heavy city and town centre traffic.
Recent figures published by the Department for Transport found that compared to 2007, there was a 16 per cent drop in motorcycle rider fatalities reported to police in 2008.
Motorcycle insurance may not make a driver safer, but it could help cover the costs of damage to a bike in the event of a collision on the road.
InsureandGo offers motorbike insurance for urban and country riders.
