Motorists in Grimsby and Cleethorpes are being advised to hide away their satellite navigation systems so as to avoid having to make a claim on their car insurance.

According to local police in Grimsby and Cleethorpes, an operation conducted by authorities revealed that many drivers were failing to keep their sat-navs out of view of thieves.

Officers taking part in the operation reported 14 devices on show on just one day during their sweep of the area.

"Our message is that crime will not be tolerated and we will do everything in our power to bring people to justice and help people stop becoming victims of crime," said detective chief inspector Rick Proctor of Humberside Police.

Residents of Scunthorpe were recently handed a free kit containing SmartWater, a chemical which is invisible to the naked eye and which can be used to mark valuables in case they are stolen.

The markings are visible under UV light.

Keep all your valuables well hidden, and make sure to be covered with the right car insurance, call or check online for a quote.
