The rising costs of petrol and increased
car insurance premiums are causing some people to use their vehicles less, a new study has claimed.
According to MoneyExpert, a quarter of drivers interviewed in the survey said that they use their cars less because of the rising costs of running a vehicle.
Over-55s were the group said to be most adversely affected, with 29 per cent of respondents in the age bracket responding that they had driven less in the past year because of fuel costs and other expenses.
Sean Gardner, spokesperson for MoneyExpert, said: "Many people are finding their finances are being squeezed to the limit and when that limit breaks something has to give."
The company suggests that 5.9 million people have switched motor insurance provider to take advantage of a better deal in the past six months.
Elsewhere, the BBC reports that rising fuel costs could force petrol stations around the country to close.
