Motorists can save money on car insurance premiums and reduce the likelihood of vehicle theft by fitting an alarm and immobiliser to their vehicle, Admiral has claimed.

According to the insurance provider, it is also important to take other measures to reduce the chance of a vehicle being targeted, such as making sure that all valuables are removed from the vehicle or stored out of sight.

Commenting recently, Justin Beddows, a spokesperson for the group, said: "For sat nav systems, keep some wet wipes in the car because the suction marks on the windscreen are a sign that you might have the system hidden elsewhere."

He added that more obvious security measures such as double checking that all doors and sunroofs were closed was also important in protecting against break-ins.

Mr Beddows' comments followed a report carried out by the group which found that 40 per cent of people are more anxious about driving their car than they were last year.
