Drivers were warned about the increased risks of driving in snowy and icy conditions this winter by a leading insurer yesterday.
NFU Mutual explained that during wintry weather, the number of
car insurance claims it receives increases significantly.
Spokesperson for the firm Laura Wood noted: "Most winter accidents involve single vehicles simply sliding off the road. Fortunately, the majority of these accidents do not lead to injuries."
However, she added that it is "vital" for motorists to ensure that they have adequate
car insurance as weather becomes increasing unpredictable in the run-up to Christmas.
Ms Wood concluded by noting that many modern cars can lead drivers to believe that conditions are safer than they are due to their insulating designs.
Insurer esure recently stated that November is the month that it sees the largest number of
car insurance claims made.
