One of the most attractive areas of parkland to be found anywhere in southern Africa has been re-opened after a period of redevelopment, it has emerged.

The Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique suffered serious damage during a civil war in the country between 1976 and 1992 and its more recent closure was the result of flooding in the local area.

Now however, the park has been restored and turned into a haven for holidaymakers and particularly those looking to ensure their travels are a sustainable activity.

Cash from the Carr Foundation has enabled Gorongosa to be restocked with wildlife and become a hot-spot for eco-tourism.

It is hoped that the 3,770 sq m park, which is home to lions, elephants and all manner of birds, will attract 3,000 visitors over the course of this year.

Mozambique is popular for tourists not only as a result of the diversity of its wildlife in the inland areas but also because of the beautiful beaches along its Indian Ocean coastline.

Before setting off to Southern Africa or any other part of the world it is a good idea to track down a good travel insurance deal with InsureandGo.
