Anything that South America can do, North America is sure to have a crack at doing better, as Miami stages a carnival to rival Rio's next month.

Over a million people from all over the world will flock to the Florida city to a massive street party that takes place over 23 blocks on March 11th.

Named Calle Ocho, the carnival is split up into a number of zones, the most famous of which is the music section, where top groups from the city's large Hispanic community strut their stuff to dancing onlookers.

For the children there is a specially designed KidzZone, where the little ones can enjoy the carnival's cultural offerings without being blown away by the noise and the boisterousness of the city streets.

There is also a Parranda Zone, where street dancers and one-man bands stroll around the crowds showcasing their talents to a more intimate audience.

Along with a stage at every intersection, food stalls will line the streets offering US-Hispanic-style culinary delights as well as some samples from around the world.
