Scotland may be set receive an influx of tourists following a film about the Loch Ness monster which will be released next year.

It is hoped that the movie will prove successful in tempting visitors to the region, despite the fact that the majority of it was filmed in New Zealand.

The Daily Record notes that the producers of The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep shot most of the motion picture some 11,000 miles away from Scotland because of New Zealand's scenery and "established film community".

However, tourism organisation VisitScotland has lent its full support to the project, despite its overseas origins.

Ewan Colville, the tourism body's marketing manager for North America, explains that the film "provides the perfect platform for us to promote Scotland as a land of mystery and legend".

The film will be launched in UK cinemas in February 2008.
