A museum dedicated to 1970s pop group ABBA is due to open in Stockholm in 2009, it has been reported.

Ewa Wigenheim-Westman and Ulf Westman, the couple behind the scheme, were inspired by the idea after visiting the Beatles museum in Liverpool a number of years ago.

Ms Wigenheim-Westman told the publication: "ABBA is one of our largest contemporary cultural treasures. With 370 million records sold, only Elvis and The Beatles have had larger sales in musical history."

Visitors to the facility will be able to view instruments and costumes used by the group as well as record an ABBA song, make a video and visit the world's biggest shop dedicated to the Swedish foursome.

In a joint statement, the members of ABBA stated that they would contribute original items to the museum.

Consumers wishing to visit Stockholm when the facility opens, or at any other time, may find that they can benefit from obtaining a travel insurance quote from InsureandGo over the phone or online.
