The newly-revised Highway Code has been welcomed by Wigan Road Safety Forum, it has been reported.

Issues covered in the new handbook include the dangers of vehicle emissions, smoking in automobiles and using satnav systems, all of which were welcomed by members of the group, asserts the Wigan News.

Councillor David Molyneux told the publications that the Highway Code contains information that can benefit road-users other than motorists, such as walkers and cyclists.

He added that the forum also organises enforcement events with local emergency services: "It's frustrating and worrying that we can still bring in hundreds of drivers off our roads who won't use a seat belt and who drive whilst on the phone.

"We all want safer streets and transport. We must all work together to achieve this," he added.

Consumers may find that a grasp of the Highway Code - which can be bought in print format or online - increases their awareness of road safety, which may in turn decrease their chances of having to make a potentially expensive car insurance claim.

Those wishing to obtain a competitive car insurance quote may find they can benefit from contacting InsureandGo online or over the phone.
