The Indian city of Chennai will soon see the introduction of a new sightseeing initiative to allow tourists to visit attractions with greater ease.

Due to be called "hop on, hop off" tours, visitors to the region will be able to board and alight from specially designed 18-seat air-conditioned coaches at any stop on a 32 km circuit.

One of the coaches will call at each stop once every 30 minutes, according to the Hindu.

Sights on the tour will include Madra University, Ashtalakshmi Temple, Velankanni Church, Central Station and Birla Planetarium.

Elsewhere in India, it was recently reported in the New India Press that Bangalore is preparing itself for an influx of tourists by investing in hotels and staff.

Those wishing to visit India as part of a backpacking holiday may find they benefit from contacting InsureandGo over the phone or online to obtain a quote for a comprehensive backpacker insurance.
