Microsoft yesterday (November 30th) announced the launch of Windows Vista, the new operating system that Microsoft is calling "the most significant product launch in company history".

The new system has been advanced in the field of graphics and provides support for XML and other technologies providing the structure for never-before-experienced facets for PC and business users alike.

The launch for business users also heralded the introduction of Microsoft Office 2007, which aims to eliminate the barriers between organisations, systems, processes and information, making communication between formats much more reliable.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said: "It's an incredible step forward for business computing in a year of unprecedented innovation from Microsoft. We expect that more than 200 million people will be using at least one of these products by the end of 2007."

Michael Wolf, president and chief operating officer of MTV Networks, said that the products would be of clear benefit to business: "These new products provide rich collaboration tools and powerful information-discovery capabilities that will help our employees be more productive and more creative.

"This will strengthen our competitive edge, and that's why we'll deploy the new products to 3,000 desktops in the coming six months."

Windows Vista is available for home users from January 30th.
