Romantic Brits looking to get
travel insurance and get married abroad could find that New York soon overtakes Las Vegas as the top destination in the US for tourists to get married.
According to reports, the Big Apple is working to lure eloping holidaymakers with
holiday insurance to pick the destination over any other.
The new Manhattan Marriage Bureau was recently opened in the city, which has "won enthusiastic reviews" from newlyweds, reports The Age.
First deputy city clerk Micheal McSweeney said that the city was "taking Las Vegas on".
The new bureau boasts two chapels, ornate chandeliers and "brightly coloured" furniture, the source notes.
Previously, getting married in the bureau had been criticised as being "cramped and unromantic", with couples having to pass through metal detectors on their way in and having limited facilities to use.
In 2007, New York City issued an estimated 66,000 marriage licences.
Starry-eyed holidaymakers planning on taking a trip to the US to get married could find that travel insurance from
InsureandGo offers the right level of cover.
