Due to be implemented in ten countries on four continents, the multilingual scheme will use online, outdoor television and print media to promote the city, according to China View.

"Tourism is essential to our economy, which is why we committed additional resources to bring more and more visitors to our world-class attractions," Mr Bloomberg stated at a press conference in Times Square.

The tagline of the campaign will be 'This is New York City'.

Mr Bloomberg added that the campaign aims to aid the city's goal of attracting some 50 million tourists to the region by 2015.
