A new campaign to get UK holidaymakers to take their breaks on the British coast has been launched by the government.
Many seaside towns and cities still rely on domestic tourism as their main source of income, said the Communities and Local Government Committee.
Politicians on the panel said that a recent campaign in Wales had successfully boosted tourism and that a similar initiative should be launched in England.
Holidaying in the UK can offer a lower cost alternative to some overseas destinations, with cheaper
travel insurance costs and fewer carbon emissions.
The Prince of Wales has agreed to act as representative for the campaign when he launches British Tourism Week at the Tower of London this month.
