The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) is set to launch its annual drink driving ad campaign designed to highlight the dangers of alcohol this festive season.

Peter Rodgers, chief examiner at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said for many people drink driving happens by error, but it is important to be reminded of the dangers involved in such actions.

He commented: "I do think a campaign is necessary every year. Drinking and driving is still an issue in the casualty stats, it is still an issue in the behaviour you see on the roads and we do need to be reminded about it."

According to ACPO Roads Policing Operations Forum chairperson Deputy Chief Constable Adam Briggs, more Brits than ever before are likely to be pulled over and breathalysed this festive period and it is a common misconception that an individual has to be involved in a collision or commit an offence to be stopped for this purpose.
