Peugeot has introduced two new petrol models in its highly popular 207 range, each equipped with more powerful and cleaner engines.
The new engines have been developed in cooperation with BMW and have already been snapped up by Mini.
Both the new 207 Sport and the 207 SE Sport will have 1.6 litre engines with 16 valves and 120 brake horse power (bhp). In contrast, the previous model only reached 110 bhp.
They also feature the Porsche tiptronic system, which has four speeds and electronic control of the gearshift.
But power and acceleration are not the only features important to the modern consumer.
As governments around the world, especially in the major car markets of Europe and North America, take notice of the challenge of climate change, car manufacturers are under increasing pressure to cut emissions.
The new 207 engine's fuel consumption has been reduced by 15 per cent and carbon dioxide emissions are now just 145 g/km, bringing it into a lower road tax band.
The models go on sale in March, starting at £11,795.
