Work has begun on the area around the citadel in the Turkish city of Ankara, it has emerged.
Streets around the bastion, as well as around 100 properties, are undergoing renovation to give the area a fresh look.
Buildings on Can and Atpazari are some of the oldest in the city, Today's Zaman notes.
Mayor of the Altindag municipality Veysel Tiryaki explains: "They reflect many aspects of Ankara's historical architecture. The buildings in question are mostly one-story shops and two or three-story residences with many rooms, courtyards and reception halls."
Other attractions in the city include the Museusm of Anatolian Civilisations, the mausoleum of Ataturk and the Temple of Augustus.
