While taking on
cheap travel insurance is one way for companies to reduce travel costs, a new survey has shown the benefits of maintaining business travel spending during the economic downturn.
Research carried out by KDS revealed that 71 per cent of business travellers said that their companies have cut back on the amount of business travel they undertake as a result of the recession.
However, the majority of respondents noted that the primary benefits of travel include the ability to improve relations between customers, suppliers and workers in other offices. Also, travel enables firms to identify unknown risks and to improve understanding of practices in foreign cultures.
Stanislas Berteloot, marketing director of KDS, commented: "The intensity of the recession has undoubtedly impacted attitudes towards travel. However, while superficially the outlook is bleak, in fact it is simply a change in demand patterns."
Norman Gage, director of business travel at Advantage Business Travel Centres, recently urged business travellers to keep hold of their expense receipts, as those which do not could be failing to make use of this income stream.
