A luxury 2,500 acre resort is to be built on the Caribbean island of St Kitts.

To be located at Cristophe Harbour on the south-eastern peninsula of the island, the project will comprise a village of shops, restaurants, homes and two five-star hotels.

Chief executive of the construction firm Kiawah Development Partners Buddy Darby commented that the company worked with the experts in many disciplines to create a "truly unique and responsibly developed" resort community.

"We're bringing that expertise to St. Kitts to create what will soon be an internationally renowned resort with a flair and spirit of immense benefit to Caribbean tourism in general and St. Kitts in particular," he said.

Caribbean Tourism Organisation chairman recently challenged ministers to make the region the "premier tourist destination" in the world.
