A number of up-and-coming tourist destinations have been identified by ABC News.

Locations due to become travel hotspots over the coming years include Nicaragua, which includes the town of Granada, featuring Spanish-style cathedrals, luxury hotels and water sports on Lake Nicaragua.

Kazakhstan, made famous by Sacha Baron Cohen's character Borat is also on the list, with attractions including mountain glaciers, medieval ruins, national parks and Charyn Canyon - the second largest in the world.

Bhutan also makes the list and the small country on the Chinese-Indian border has been described as the happiest place on earth, measuring its gross national happiness since 1974.

In related news, the Daily Telegraph recently identified the best new hotels for 2008, including a former palace in Bruges, Belgium.
