Having adequate
pet insurance in place leaves no reason for animals to be mistreated, it has been asserted.
The Swindon Advertiser reports the case of a dog found in too poor health to rescue, which subsequently had to be put down.
Alison Waine, environmental protection officer for animals at Swindon Council, tells the publication that there are no excuses for allowing this to happen.
"There is no reason to let an animal get into this state," she says.
"You can contact the RSPCA or the council. You should also have insurance."
The cost of taking out comprehensive pet insurance could prove easier to meet than the fines that can be imposed for mistreating animals.
Insurance could also pay out for operations to treat conditions such as tumours - which Ms Waine believes is one of the reasons why the dog in this case was abandoned.
The RSPCA adds that pet insurance can provide some peace of mind as "the bond we all have is at its strongest in times of crisis".
In a crisis, or any time, pet insurance from
InsureandGo could help.
