The number of people applying for non-smoker life insurance policies could rise in the coming months, it has been suggested.

Commenting recently, Amanda Sandford, research manager for Action on Smoking and Health, said that there was a notable increase in the number of people giving up following the introduction of the smoking ban in July last year.

As most insurance providers require a non-smoker to have given up for 12 months before they can apply for cover as a non-smoker, there may be more applications seen in the coming months as a result of the ban.

However, Ms Sandford added that statistics on the number of people who quit last year may not be the most reliable indicator of any potential increase in ex-smoker life insurance applications as it was unlikely that many would have been able to avoid smoking for a full year.

"There may well be a rise in people now looking for life insurance as non-smokers, but I don't think it's going to be a huge influx of people," she concluded.

InsureandGo offers great value life insurance policies that last for a set number of years.
