The north of England is ideal for a romantic break, according to Visit Britain.

Elliott Frisby of Visit Britain said that destinations like the Yorkshire moors or Whitby were good for romantic getaways.

He went on to say that people could "cosy up with a loved one" on the moors or take a beachside walk in Whitby.

Last year, overseas tourists spent £8 billion in the UK, with the average spend being £377 each trip, which lasted for 6.2 days.

UK residents had 32.9 million overnight trips within the UK between January and April this year, according to the United Kingdom Travel Survey.

In related news, research from the Yorkshire Tourist Board published in the Huddersfield Examiner shows that the county is getting more visitors, 60 per cent of which were prompted to book a break there after seeing the Make Yorkshire Yours campaign.

The amount spent by tourists per head went up from £447 to £588, according to the newspaper.
